At a New Jersey rally, former US President Donald Trump’s unusual behavior puzzled attendees as he praised a fictional cannibal and performed a complete recitation of a 1963 soul song. During his speech, which lasted over 90 minutes, Trump recited “The Snake” by Oscar Brown to critique current immigration policies.
“We’re allowing people into our country who will only be trouble,” Trump declared, using the song’s narrative to underscore his perspective on immigration. The recitation drew mixed reactions from the large crowd on Wildwood’s beach, with some spectators visibly confused and others leaving early, via Barron’s.
“Did everybody enjoy it? Don’t enjoy, you should be — you should be scared!” Trump added, attempting to emphasize the intended impact of his message.
The rally also included Trump’s bizarre commendation of Hannibal Lecter, the notorious fictional character from “Silence of the Lambs,” whom he described as “a wonderful man” who “oftentimes would have a friend for dinner.” This remark quickly became a focal point for social media discussion.
The incident at the rally comes at a time when Trump has intensified his rhetoric on immigration, previously claiming that migrants were “poisoning the blood” of the United States, a comment that had drawn comparisons to Hitler from Biden’s campaign.
