According to a report by Breitbart on Sunday, June 23, 2024, Representative Maxine Waters (D-CA) expressed deep concerns about potential violence if former President Donald Trump secured a victory in the upcoming November election. Speaking on MSNBC’s “The Saturday Show,” Waters emphasized the heightened risks, particularly for people of color, should Trump return to the Oval Office.
Host Jonathan Capehart initiated the discussion by questioning Waters about her personal safety in the event of Trump’s re-election. Waters responded with a grim outlook, extending her worries beyond her own safety to include members of Congress and the broader American populace. “I’m very concerned, not only about my safety and not only about the safety of members of Congress. I’m concerned about the safety of so many people in this country, particularly people of color,” Waters stated.
She underscored Trump’s inflammatory rhetoric, noting his previous statements suggesting that any loss would be due to fraud, potentially inciting violent reactions from his supporters. “Donald Trump has said that if he does not win, it is going to be fraud, and because it is going to be fraud, there will be blood in the streets,” Waters continued.
The congresswoman highlighted the dangerous implications of Trump’s words, describing them as a call to action for individuals with racist ideologies. “He threatens about a civil war, and he threatens there’s going to be violence. I would say all of this talk is motivational with many of those who are racist, who are sitting at home listening to him, and they are taking him up on his threats even before the elections take place,” she said.
Waters warned that this rhetoric places thousands, if not millions, at risk, driven by Trump’s vengeful aspirations. Reflecting on past events, Waters drew a direct line between Trump’s statements and the violent insurrection at the Capitol on January 6, 2021. “I do believe having listened to Donald Trump so many times and having the attack, the insurrection that took place on the House of Representatives in Congress, on the Capitol, the Capitol grounds, we could be in for more killings like that,” she remarked.
Waters stressed the need for Trump to be held accountable for his incendiary language, which she believes could incite further violence. “I think Donald Trump has to take responsibility for what he is saying about blood in the streets and violence if he is not elected to be the president of the United States of America,” she concluded.
