Rolling Loud had to retract their claim that Travis Scott was unable to headline the festival due to concerns from the venue.
Kanye West pulled out of Rolling Loud’s Miami event last week, just five days before his scheduled performance, leaving the festival’s organizers less than a week to find replacements for one of its superstars.
Despite their best efforts, they were unable to convince the Donda hitmaker to change his mind, so they were forced to quickly locate a replacement act. Tariq Cherif and Matt Zingler, the co-founders of Rolling Loud, released a statement on Sunday (July 17), however, they did not provide any reason for Ye’s withdrawal.
“We were looking forward to Ye headlining Rolling Loud Miami 2022. We spent months working with him and his team on the performance. Unfortunately, Ye has decided that he will no longer be performing,” Rolling Loud explained.
Following the news that Kanye will not be attending the festival, many fans expressed their anger on social media. But when it was revealed that Kid Cudi would take his place, the complaints persisted.
Tariq took to the Rolling Loud comments section in an attempt to provide answers to festival goers. “Tried to convince Ye to stay on the lineup but he wasn’t having it,” he explained in the pinned comment.
Others voiced their anger at the last-minute change and started naming performers they thought should have taken Ye’s spot at Rolling Loud instead. Travis Scott was one of the most often suggested names among those mentioned. It wouldn’t be conceivable, according to Cherif, who also placed the responsibility on the Hard Rock Stadium venue since it was worried after ten people died at his Astroworld Festival in November. Although he has since deleted his comment, he continued, “Venue won’t allow Travis because of Astroworld deaths.”
Tariq had to retract, telling TMZ that he deleted the comment right away since it was untrue. He claims that Rolling Loud attempted to get Travis Scott to take Ye’s position, but they were unable. Due to the short notice, there was no time to set up the rapper’s extensive stage production, so they were unable to proceed.
At Hard Rock Stadium this weekend, starting on Friday, Rolling Loud Miami begins (Jul. 22).
