Steph Curry is taking cautious steps toward a return, but the Warriors’ superstar is still dealing with the aftermath of his hamstring injury. The team is set to provide an official re-evaluation of Curry on Wednesday, but ESPN NBA Insider Shams Charania shared that the 37-year-old is progressing toward being ready to hit the court again.

“I’m told his progression going into [Monday] was really like jogging, some movement into his jump shooting over the weekend,” Charania said during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, just hours before the Warriors were set to face the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 4 of their Western Conference semifinal series. “I think the next step is trying to get him to the point where he can run fully, sprint fully, cut fully, and take contact fully. Until you get to that point, there’s not like a safe way to bring him back from a hamstring injury, and that organization is obviously, I think, been very measured and careful bringing back players from these significant, soft tissue muscle injuries.”

The injury, a Grade 1 left hamstring strain, occurred early in Game 1 of the series against the Timberwolves on May 6. While the Warriors managed to pull off a win in Game 1 without Curry for much of the game, the team struggled in Game 2, suffering a blowout loss, and let a fourth-quarter lead slip away in Game 3 at Chase Center on Saturday.

Charania also mentioned that Curry had shared this was the first muscle strain of this type he’s dealt with in his 16-year NBA career, further underlining the need for a careful approach. “They’re going to take a careful approach the next two days, I think it’s to see, can you ramp him up into running and cutting and sprinting, but they got to win tonight,” Charania said, pointing out that the Warriors’ immediate focus is securing a win.

While the Warriors are facing a tough challenge, they’re not out of the race just yet. The earliest Curry could return is in Game 6, which is scheduled for Sunday, May 18. But to get to that point, the Warriors will need to win their next two games to stay alive in the series and give Curry a chance to come back.

For now, the good news is that Curry is showing some progress, though it’s slow. Warriors fans are anxiously waiting for the moment their star guard can fully recover and rejoin the team. The next few days are crucial, but the hope for a potential Curry return remains alive—if the Warriors can keep their playoff hopes intact.
