Megyn Kelly has recently described First Lady Jill Biden as “power hungry” amid growing calls for President Joe Biden to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race following a disappointing debate performance.
The First Lady has been a staunch advocate for Biden to remain in the race, despite his underwhelming performance in a debate in late June. This has reignited concerns about his age, his capability to defeat Donald Trump in the upcoming election, and his ability to serve another four years as president. Jill Biden told Vogue magazine that the family would “not let those 90 minutes define the four years he’s been president. We will continue to fight.”
Despite increasing pressure from some Democrats to step aside, Biden has pledged to stay in the race. During an appearance on Piers Morgan Uncensored, Kelly accused the first lady of being obsessed with self-promotion and seeking a “shadow presidency” in place of her “infirm” husband. “I think she’s been exposed as a power-hungry…aspirant herself to political power,” Kelly told host Piers Morgan. “She is on the cover of Vogue magazine right now. Why? Because she wants to promote herself.”
Kelly also referenced a June 2021 photo that Jill Biden posted on social media with the caption: “Prepping for the G7.” She criticized this by saying, “She’s not the damn president. Get out of the chair. No one wants you at the G7. No one elected you to lead us politically.”
Kelly further suggested that Jill Biden “insists on being called Dr. Jill Biden everywhere” because she “needs the affirmation of strangers.” Kelly recalled, “A couple of years ago, I did a bit that went viral on how she insists on being called Dr. Jill Biden everywhere. And all these left-wingers got upset with me. ‘She is a doctor, she’s got her Ph.D., she’s in education’… what have you. I don’t make fun of that degree. My own father had that degree. But my father would never have insisted somebody call him Dr. Kelly. He went by professor, and that was a title he’d earned.”
According to Kelly, Jill Biden’s insistence on the title “Dr.” stems from a need for external validation. “She’s power hungry. She has a small, fractured ego that she needs built up. She needs the affirmation of strangers to give her an honorarium that really means almost nothing,” Kelly said. “I do think it’s tied to what we’re seeing now, the big reveal about her. She’s power-hungry. She wants it.”
Kelly also criticized a video showing the first lady guiding President Biden off the debate stage, comparing it to how a “mama” would lead “a toddler.” She referenced another video where Jill Biden told her husband after the debate, “Joe, you did such a great job. You answered every question, you knew all the facts.” Kelly remarked, “The first lady speaks to the president the way I speak to my dog when he sits on command. This is the leader of the free world. She knows how infirm he is. She wants a shadow presidency.”
These comments come at a time when the political future of the current administration is under intense scrutiny, with debates over leadership and capability dominating discussions.
