Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s recent remarks comparing former President Donald Trump to Jesus Christ have ignited a storm of backlash on social media. Speaking at a Trump event in Las Vegas, Greene, amidst religious praises from other MAGA speakers, declared, “The man that I worship is also a convicted felon. And he was murdered on a Roman cross.” This bold analogy between Trump and Christ, as reported by Rolling Stone, did not sit well with the public.

Social media users swiftly responded with a mixture of disbelief and indignation. Critiques ranged from historical inaccuracies to outright blasphemy. One user sarcastically noted, “Yes, Christ was charged with a felony for falsification of his business records to hide his raw-dogging a porn star from the American people.” Others were shocked by the comparison, with one remarking on the absurdity: “Of all the reasons to compare someone to Jesus, going the ‘convicted felon’ route is truly wild.”

The intensity of the backlash was palpable, with comments highlighting the blasphemous nature of Greene’s comparison. “She’s lucky lightning didn’t strike her down at that exact moment…what a wildly blasphemous comparison. Jesus was the sacrificial lamb, and not someone committing criminal fraud and breaking every commandment there is,” a user exclaimed.

Further criticisms likened the MAGA movement to a cult, drawing parallels between its leaders and infamous criminals. Tweets such as, “Charles Manson also compared himself to Jesus. He had his ‘family’ embrace that narrative. MAGA is another destructive cult,” and humorous yet pointed comparisons to notorious felons like Ted Bundy and Jeffrey Dahmer underscored the controversial nature of Greene’s statements.

Greene’s remarks came on the heels of Trump’s arrest in New York, where she had previously likened him to other historical figures like Nelson Mandela, noting, “Trump is joining some of the most incredible people in history being arrested today…Jesus was arrested and murdered by the Roman government.”

Additionally, Greene faced ridicule after a lengthy tweet praising Trump, in which she shared “He is the most attacked and lied-about man living on planet Earth. And he takes all of the unfair cruel attacks with strength, grace, and unwavering hope…that through it all people will wake up and see what is happening, and join in the fight…”, Told Newsweek.

The controversy surrounding Greene’s statements highlights the deep divisions and the potent mix of politics and religion in today’s political discourse, with her comments serving as a flashpoint for broader debates over the appropriateness and implications of such comparisons.
