Late Wednesday night in Clayton County, police launched an active search for a man who fled from a traffic stop. The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. on Upper Riverdale Road in Jonesboro when officers pulled over the man. Upon instructing him to exit the vehicle, the man abruptly ran away. During the pursuit, officers witnessed him retrieving a gun from his waistband.
As reported by Atlanta News First, In response to the perceived threat, officers fired at the fleeing man, but it remains undisclosed whether he was struck. Fortunately, no officers sustained injuries during the incident. The suspect is currently at large, and a thorough search is underway.
At the scene of the chase, police discovered the discarded firearm. Upper Riverdale Road, near Tara Boulevard, has been temporarily closed off in front of the Econo Lodge. Law enforcement personnel, including officers and detectives, have established a presence, deploying evidence markers and crime scene tape as part of their ongoing investigation.
