Lauren Boebert, the outspoken congresswoman from Colorado known for her controversial antics, once again aimed her criticism at President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris on the anniversary of the tragic suicide bombing that claimed the lives of 13 U.S. service members during the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan. In typical fashion, Boebert overlooked critical details, instead focusing on her favorite targets.
Boebert took to Twitter to express her disdain for the Biden administration, writing, “My heart is with the 13 families who lost loved ones in Afghanistan three years ago because of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’ pathetic withdrawal.” However, Boebert conveniently ignored the fact that the withdrawal plan was initiated by the Trump administration through a 2020 deal with the Taliban. The Biden administration, though admitting to some missteps in executing the withdrawal, inherited a precarious situation with limited options.
Despite the complexities surrounding the Afghanistan withdrawal, Boebert chose to ignore the role of her political ally, Donald Trump, in setting the stage for the events that unfolded. Instead, she continues to lay the blame squarely on the current administration, refusing to acknowledge that the agreement was a ticking time bomb long before Biden and Harris took office.
This is not the first time Boebert’s own actions have drawn negative attention. In September 2023, she was ejected from a Beetlejuice musical for inappropriate behavior, including public displays of affection and vaping in the theater. Additionally, her son, Tyler, faces multiple charges related to car break-ins and thefts, while her ex-husband, Jayson, was recently arrested for assault in connection with domestic incidents.
Boebert’s political standing in her own district is also showing signs of strain. According to a poll, 55% of voters believe she is “more focused on getting attention than getting things done.” Her narrow victory in the 2022 re-election—winning by just 546 votes out of 327,000 cast—suggests that her antics may be wearing thin, even in her conservative stronghold.
Instead of playing the blame game, perhaps Boebert should focus on addressing her own issues and leave complex foreign policy matters to those with the expertise to handle them. However, given her history, it seems likely she will continue to seek the spotlight, regardless of the consequences.
