Kevin Durant has addressed Charles Barkley’s recent remarks during the All-Star Game broadcast, where Barkley criticized Durant’s leadership skills.
In a conversation with his own media outlet, Boardroom, alongside his agent Rich Kleiman, Durant offered his side of the story in response to Barkley’s assertion that he is “a follower” rather than “a leader.”
The 35-year-old Suns forward, who boasts an impressive season average of 28.2 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 5.7 assists, has frequently been the subject of Barkley’s critiques. Barkley had previously described Durant as “very sensitive” and incapable of handling criticism.
During the All-Star Game, Barkley escalated his critique, stating, “No disrespect to Kevin, but he’s a follower, not a leader. He’s shown that everywhere he’s been. Devin Booker is an incredible player too, and he needs to lead the Suns to greater heights. Like I’ve said about Boston before, someone needs to step up, and for Phoenix, that person should be Booker.”
Suns coach Frank Vogel came to Durant’s defense, highlighting his leadership both on and off the court. “Kevin leads by example and speaks up when necessary. Not everyone is the vocal type, but leadership can take many forms. It’s important to lead in a way that’s true to oneself,” Vogel commented on a local sports radio show.
