American golf star, Gary Woodland, recently had a surgery to extract a brain tumor, according to updates shared on his social media channels.
Woodland, renowned for his US Open victory, went through an extensive surgery on Monday that successfully removed most of the tumor, a condition he publicly disclosed on August 30th.
Initially discovered several months ago, the Kansas native, aged 39, initially sought to manage the symptoms through medication before opting for surgical intervention.
Having last competed at the Wyndham Championship in North Carolina earlier in August, Woodland is set to take a break for recuperation.
The update further expressed the family’s wishes: “They appreciate all the thoughts and prayers during this time and request privacy as they come together during his recovery.”
With four PGA Tour victories under his belt, Woodland’s crowning moment was at Pebble Beach in 2019, where he secured the US Open title by outpacing fellow American, Brooks Koepka. His triumphant moment at the US Open remains his latest win on the PGA Tour, but he’s made a notable impression this season, finishing in the top-10 twice and standing 74th globally after the Wyndham Championship.
