A fire broke out on Tuesday at the Dallas Cowboys’ team hotel in Oxnard, California, where the team is holding its training camp. The incident occurred at the Oxnard Residence Inn, the team’s temporary home during their roughly one-month stay. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported, shared on its official website.
Local media captured video footage showing smoke billowing from one of the condominiums at the Residence Inn. At the time of the fire, the Cowboys were conducting a walk-through practice session. Despite the situation, the team continued with their practice while emergency responders attended to the fire.
Head coach Mike McCarthy addressed the situation after practice, confirming that no one was hurt in the incident. The Cowboys later released an official statement, reassuring that the fire was contained to a single, unoccupied room. “There was a fire emergency in one of the guest rooms this afternoon at the team’s hotel in Oxnard, Calif.,” the statement read. “The emergency was contained to one room, that was empty at the time, and there were no injuries. The Dallas Cowboys thank the Oxnard Fire Department and Oxnard Police Department for their quick response and reaction to the situation.”
Details regarding the cause of the fire remain unclear, and neither the Cowboys nor local officials have provided further information. It is also unknown whether the affected room was assigned to a Cowboys player or staff member.
The Cowboys arrived in Oxnard as a team on July 23 and began their training camp practices on July 25. The team is set to hold their final practice in Oxnard on Thursday before returning to Texas. They told ESPN that they will host the Los Angeles Chargers in their preseason finale on Saturday. Following that, the Cowboys will complete their preseason preparations at their facilities in Frisco, Texas, leading up to their regular-season opener against the Cleveland Browns on September 8.
The quick response and containment of the fire ensured that the team could continue with its preparations without any major disruptions, allowing them to focus on their upcoming games.
