House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan is inquiring into the FBI’s recruitment strategies focused on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), expressing concerns about the impact on the bureau’s ability to fulfill its mission effectively.

According to Jordan, the FBI’s intense emphasis on DEI, as encouraged by the Biden Administration, may be sidelining candidates with the optimal qualifications for federal law enforcement roles, potentially compromising the safety and civil liberties of the American public.

Jordan’s office has voiced concerns that this approach could diminish public trust in the FBI’s capacity to operate impartially and proficiently. He underscored these issues in a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray, citing a report from October 2023 authored by retired FBI Special Agents and Analysts. This report highlights “alarming trends” in how the FBI selects and recruits its personnel, suggesting a possible misalignment with the agency’s core mission due to a focus on DEI metrics.

In his letter, Jordan requested detailed data from the FBI, including monthly application totals, evaluation scores, and rates of success or failure through the different stages of the FBI Academy training process from 2014 to 2024. He aims to scrutinize the impact of DEI-focused recruitment on the quality and retention of FBI Special Agents.
