Darius Garland has been approved to resume certain on-court activities, marking a significant step forward in his recovery from a broken jaw sustained during a game against the Boston Celtics last month.

The injury occurred on December 14 when the Cleveland Cavaliers guard collided with Celtics center Kristaps Porzingis during a routine drive to the basket. As a result, Garland had to adhere to a liquid diet and sideline himself while his jaw underwent the healing process. The wiring on his jaw was recently removed on Monday, and the initial prognosis suggests that Garland is expected to be sidelined for an additional two weeks.

Before the injury, the 23-year-old was making a significant impact, averaging 20.7 points and 5.9 assists, contributing to the Cavaliers’ 13-12 record at the time. Despite his absence, the team has displayed resilience, posting a remarkable 12-3 record during his recovery period. Notably, the Cavaliers have also faced challenges with power forward Evan Mobley sidelined due to arthroscopic knee surgery, with his return anticipated next month.

The Cavaliers, currently enjoying a five-game winning streak since the beginning of the new year, are set to face the Milwaukee Bucks in their next game on Wednesday. Subsequently, they embark on a four-game road trip, taking on the Atlanta Hawks, and Orlando Magic, and engaging in back-to-back contests against the Milwaukee Bucks.

As the season reaches its midway point, the Cavaliers find themselves positioned in second place in the Central Division and fourth in the Eastern Conference standings.
