President Joe Biden has been interviewed regarding the unexpected discovery of classified documents from his tenure as vice president at his Delaware residence, the White House confirmed on Monday.

Ian Sams, the White House spokesperson, conveyed in a statement that the discussion with special counsel Robert Hur took place voluntarily over the course of Sunday and Monday. “The President and the White House remain cooperative throughout this investigation. We’re committed to being as transparent as possible, ensuring the investigation’s integrity remains uncompromised,” mentioned Sams.

Earlier this year, US Attorney General Merrick Garland designated Robert Hur to probe into the situation following the discovery of these documents from Biden’s term under President Barack Obama (2009-2017) at his Wilmington home.

As reported by CBS News on October, Monday 9, 2023, President Biden, taken aback by the discovery, maintains he wasn’t aware of these documents at his residence. He emphasizes his prompt cooperation, pointing out his legal team’s immediate surrender of the documents upon their discovery.

This incident contrasts sharply with the case of former President Donald Trump (2017-2021). Trump resisted returning classified documents he took post-presidency from the White House to the National Archives. This led the FBI to retrieve these documents from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. This retrieval has landed the former Republican President with criminal charges, putting him at risk of a potential prison sentence if found guilty.
