In the draw for the upcoming Copa America, defending champions Argentina and football giants Brazil have been placed in favorable groups, while the United States, hosting the event, faces a challenging match against Uruguay, a team with 15 Copa titles. The tournament is set to begin on June 20 at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.
In a recent article by BNN Breaking, Argentina will commence their campaign in Group A, facing either Canada or Trinidad and Tobago, who are yet to qualify through a CONCACAF playoff in March. Their group also includes Peru and Chile, setting up a repeat of the 2016 centenary edition final, where Argentina, led by Lionel Messi, was defeated on penalties.
Brazil, the nine-time winners and last tournament’s runners-up, find themselves in Group D alongside Colombia, Paraguay, and another CONCACAF qualifier, potentially Honduras or Costa Rica.
The U.S. team is grouped in Group C, starting with matches against Bolivia and Panama, before a significant clash with Uruguay. The U.S. aims to surpass its best performance, a top-four finish in 2016.
Mexico, the CONCACAF Gold Cup champions, is positioned in Group B with Jamaica, Venezuela, and Ecuador. The top two teams from each of the four groups will advance to the quarter-finals.
The draw for the tournament was conducted at the James L. Knight Center in Miami, which will also host the final at the Hard Rock Stadium on July 14.
