In a strategic move by the Cleveland Browns, veteran and Super Bowl MVP quarterback Joe Flacco is reportedly joining their practice squad, as per ESPN’s Adam Schefter’s announcement.
This decision emerges following the announcement that the Browns’ QB Deshaun Watson will be sidelined for the rest of the season due to a necessary shoulder surgery.
Insights from Schefter suggest that Flacco, known for his exceptional play, is expected to soon move up to the active roster. This move aims to bolster the quarterback lineup, supporting rookie QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson and P.J. Walker.
At 38, Flacco has been absent from the NFL arena this season, following a hiatus since his last engagement with the New York Jets. His tenure with the Jets saw him accumulate 1051 passing yards, along with five touchdowns and three interceptions.
Flacco’s most recent NFL appearance was against the Miami Dolphins in Week 17, where he managed 149 passing yards. His long-standing career includes 180 starts, with a record of 99 wins and 81 losses, and a total of 42,320 passing yards. Notably, Flacco spent 11 seasons with the Ravens and had stints with the Jets and Denver.
His crowning achievement came in 2012 with the Baltimore Ravens, where he earned the Super Bowl MVP title by leading his team to victory in Super Bowl 47 with 287 yards and three touchdowns.
The Browns, currently holding a strong 7-3 record and ranking second in the AFC North, are also leading the Wild Card race in the AFC. Their recent 13-10 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers was propelled by the impressive performance of rookie QB Thompson-Robinson.”
