According to a report by Raw Story on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, Mary Trump, a psychologist, and niece of former President Donald Trump, expressed her views on her uncle’s recent legal and political setbacks in a Substack post on Wednesday.
Despite the Supreme Court agreeing to hear Trump’s immunity claim, Mary Trump stated that both her uncle and his supporters had a challenging day.
In her piece, Mary Trump emphasized the significance of the Supreme Court’s decision to consider Trump’s immunity appeal, which some experts caution might benefit the former president as a criminal defendant.
She criticized the court’s move as a reminder that the aftermath of the Capitol insurrection still looms over the nation.
However, Mary Trump also provided a glimmer of hope, stating that the Supreme Court’s decision should not impact Trump’s ongoing state cases.
“The Supreme Court of the United States just reminded us with their corrupt decision to consider Donald’s immunity case that the insurrection did not fail — it never ended,” Mary Trump wrote, then pivoting to the bright side. “In the meantime, the good news is their decision should not affect Donald’s state cases. Donald faces two criminal state cases: one in New York for allegedly falsifying business records and one in Georgia for election inference, with some charges in the latter case carrying mandatory prison sentences.”
Despite the legal battle, Mary Trump highlighted what she described as a series of setbacks for the MAGA (Make America Great Again) movement in the past 24 hours.
She pointed out instances such as Trump’s apparent financial struggles, reflected in a judge’s rebuke despite his claims of insufficient funds to pay a fraud penalty.
She said; “Donald signals he doesn’t have the money to pay his fraud penalty—and the judge slams him anyway.”
“Has anyone calculated how many gold sneakers Donald has to sell to afford the entire judgment?” she asked.
Additionally, Mary Trump referenced President Joe Biden’s recent physical examination, where his physician described him as a healthy and active 81-year-old.
She suggested that this assessment might not sit well with Trump’s supporters, given their allegiance to him.
“President Biden gets a physical and MAGA won’t like what his doctor said.”
“President Joe Biden is ‘a healthy, active, robust 81-year-old male,’ President Biden’s physician, Kevin O’Connor, wrote in a memo,” according to Mary Trump.
She also noted that, “An appeals court rejects Mark Meadow’s request to move his trial to federal court.”
“That means Meadows must face the racketeering charges before an Atlanta jury unless the US Supreme Court takes his case, but they’re probably too busy helping Donald out to bother.”
Mary Trump concluded her analysis by pointing to Michigan’s recent political landscape, where she argued that Trump’s vulnerabilities became apparent.
Despite mainstream media framing Michigan as a victory for Trump, Mary Trump asserted that a significant number of Republicans abstained from supporting him, indicating a potential weakness in his appeal to voters.
“Michigan proves Donald is vulnerable,” Mary Trump wrote. “While the corporate media framed Michigan as a win for Donald, the fact of the matter is that 300,000 Republicans refused to vote for him.”
